Build A Gymnastics Balance Beam!

3 Solutions to Make A Gymnastics Balance Beam

Professional gymnastics balance beams are manufactured using a variety of synthetic material in addition to wood and cost thousands of dollars. It is not difficult to build one for home use using a wood base. Generally, a professional beam is approximately 16 feet long, 4 inches wide, and 5 inches thick.  For home practice purposes, you can compromise the length (8ft, 10ft and 12 ft are most popular lengths) however make sure that the width and thickness remain the same to make it as much like a professional beam as possible.

Solution 1 - Apply suede top to a Carpet Beam. This is the easiest and most cost effective solution.

Solution 2 -  Apply a Suede Top to a wood beam.  Our DIY topper kit allows you to quickly attach a Suede top to a wood balance beam to give it a more realistic surface. This is a good bridge solution for the young gymnast just starting lessons.

Solution 3 - Wrap your balance beam in authentic gymnastics suede for the most realistic look and feel. This is the more expensive solution and this project can involve simple wood braces or steel risers. The extent of the project will determine cost.  Best solution for the aspiring gymnast who is competing, or young and has high interest level in the sport.
